There is so much to do, so much work undone,
emails unreplied, thank-you notes unwritten,
phone bills unpaid and flights unreserved,
visits unconfirmed, dinners and sermons unprepared;
I am overwhelmed and it’s only January.
Lord, when I get anxious about the big and the trivial,
your spirit nudges me, gently reminding me to be at rest;
you are the Alpha and Omega, the finisher of our faith
who has done, replied, written, paid, and prepared everything;
what tremendous grace realized and it’s only January.
