In yesterday’s post, I referred readers to David Brooks’ lovely column titled “Rugged altruism.” Today, I point you to a blog entry from my friend Mark Vincent over at Design Group International where he writes on Romans 12: 1-2 and the connection between transformation through faith in God and the steward leader.
Similar to Brooks’ identification of thanklessness — the ability to keep serving even when there are no evident rewards — as key to lives of true significance, Mark describes the outcome of God’s transforming work as resulting
in lifelong service where one’s gifts are pressed into service for all that is good and holy, benefiting the welfare of others, whether or not the Steward Leader is acknowledged or given any reward. The reward comes from knowing one has done all they can, bringing all their gifts into play, and opening the door for others to join the journey.
