In a recent blog post, the always wise Seth Godin threw out the line, “Money is a story.”
Which got me thinking.
If Godin is on to something (which I believe he is), a question that needs asking is this: What genre best describes my money story?
Is it:
An adventure tale of high risk spending and debt-baiting financial (non)planning?
A romance novel detailing the twists and turns of my love affair with money?
A mystery thriller focused on tracking the money that got away?
A fairy tale still waiting for the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow?
A testimony of a faithful and faith-fueled steward determined to live rich toward God?
To be sure, money isn’t the whole of our stories. But money is a theme that shows up in almost every chapter. For some of us, on every page.
Money is a story. The genre is ours to choose.
