A 4-word seminar on donor retention

A pop-up ad from Chronicle of Philanthropy trumpeting a webinar session on keeping crisis donors in the fold caught my attention this morning. It’s a worthy topic to be sure and one about which a lot of fundraisers are talking/asking these days.

But really. Do we need an entire webinar to figure it out?

Here’s my four-word response to the chatter and questions: BEGIN WITH THANK YOU.

Handwritten notes are warmer and more personal than a phone call, email, or text and second best to thanking someone in person. But don’t get hung up on the form. Just say it.

If my four word seminar isn’t enough for you, here’s more free advice.

Be QUICK.

Be SINCERE.

Be SPECIFIC (stories are essential).

REPEAT as often and in as many ways as you can.

In my experience as both a fundraiser and a fund giver, it’s impossible to overdo appreciation.

You can thank me later for saving you time and money for yet another webinar.
